Hi, Dave, I’m sorry to inform you that there are two changes to the schedule for English Art Festival. First, there will be a very important meeting after lunch in our school, so English Talk Show will be put off by 30 minutes. That is, it starts at 14:00 and ends at 15:00. Second, the place where the English Corner will be held is to be changed from Playground to the School Hall because the weather report says it’s going to rain that afternoon. In order to have the Festival going well, we have to do the changes.
Please come and join us on time. We are all expecting you!

W: James, I hear that you have a large collection of match boxes. Is that true? There are few shops selling matches, you know. How do you get them?
M: Right. We seldom use matches now but luckily my father has collected many when he was young and he gave me some as my birthday gift when I was 12. You know a good base is important and I never miss a chance of finding a match box even if it’s uncommon now.
W: How I envy you! I see that interest can make a person full of hopes and confidence. I liked collecting coins but I gave up halfway.

W: And I realized we were completely lost, but at least we got there in the end.
M: Funny you should say that because, err, a similar thing happened to me one time when I was abroad. We were actually doing a concert in this bar in Germany.
W: Really?
M: I was actually about to appear on stage, you know, with the band. And I just thought, “I will just go out for a little walk and get some fresh air,” because I had about half an hour before we had to go on.
W: Uh-huh.
M: And I went outside, you know, had a look around, walked around for a bit…and then I decided to go back and I couldn’t find it. It was about 2 minutes before we were supposed to start.
W: No, you are joking!
M: Yes, I thought, “Ah, what am I goanna do?”
W: Could you ask the directions?
M: Well, I tried. I asked an old lady, but she didn’t speak English and I don’t speak German.
W: Don’t you? Oh, right!
M: And then I realized that I couldn’t remember the name of the bar, or the street it was on or anything. So, you know, I was in the middle of a town I didn’t know, not knowing the language…and luckily, I saw someone wearing one of our T-shirts. He was obviously going to the concert, so I followed him back to the bar.
W: Wow! That was lucky! Thank goodness!
M: And when I got there, the guys are like, “Where have you been? We thought you’d run out on this!” Anyway, we managed.

M: Welcome to London this December! There’s plenty going on this month. For example, on 1 December, London’s West End, the capital’s best shopping district, has its largest ever traffic-free day. More than a million visitors are expected to shop and enjoy various activities while Oxford Street and Regent Street are completely closed to cars and buses. Shoppers will be able to move around the streets, visiting our famous department stores, and having a bite at one of the many cafes and restaurants in the area. Trafalgar Square’s Christmas tree, a gift to London from Norway, will be lit at 6 p.m. on 6 December to the sounds of traditional Christmas songs. Then, every evening from 10 December until 23 December, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., people will sing Christmas songs in this beautiful setting. Lastly, ring in the New Year with the capital’s largest fireworks show. Although the fireworks will be set off at the British Airways London Eye, they can be enjoyed from across London and will also be broadcast on television at the same time. Then, just a few hours later, come out and see London’s colorful New Year’s Day parade, when marching performers from around the world pass through the capital’s streets. Enjoy your time in our city.
